Tiny Love Musical Take
Why must Biker Freeway s Billy
I had heard many good things about this novel with many recommendations that, as a Harry Potter fan, I would enjoy it. I’m happy to say that it lived up to all of the hype. This is yet another example of a fine writer producing children’s literature that’s not all that childish. Like a really well-done cartoon, there’s plenty in its pages to entertain and amuse children and many references that will go straight over their heads but that adults will enjoy.
The language Colfer uses is really wonderful. He doesn’t try to dumb it down and the vocabulary is colorful and would be a nice challenge for younger children and yet it’s not so academic that it becomes daunting. Colfer uses colorful language and does an excellent job of setting the scene and creating believable and fun dialogue.
The best thing about this book, though, is Colfer’s prodigious imagination. Artemis is a very fun and unexpected character and the Butlers were also a lot of fun, particularly Julia with her penchant for wrestling. Colfer’s twists on traditional folklore and fairytale creatures is very innovative and his take on how the “Mud People” stereotype fairies, elves, and dwarves was a riot. Colfer is very adept at using such satire to great effect and while kids will find it funny, adults will appreciate how Colfer pokes fun at our own world.
Overall, this book is a great deal of fun and I look very forward to reading the next installment.

Rings Tropical and you
In all my life, I have read hundreds of books, and few were so enjoyable as this book, Artemis Fowl.
The book is set in our current time and begins with a 12-year-old genius finding a fantastical creature, green and slimy and in pain from alcoholism, and forces it to give him a copy of The Book–the Fairy’s Bible in essence. From here it goes into an exciting, dangerous, and twisty story full of surprises and characters you wouldn’t expect.
The novelty of this book is the fact that it has an entirely new take on fairies. It doesn’t show them as cute little creatures who sprinkle pink sparkly dust all over you. These fairies are heavily-armed, high technology, and completely human-like. They have very human qualities that makes them appealing, but they have (obviously) many things about them that are inherently fairy. They have familiar fairy qualities, but yet Colfer was able to add other elements to the fairies that we’ve never seen before. One of the most unique was the reinvention of the dwarf. Dwarfs have been transformed into tunnelers who consume the dirt and digest it in seconds to tunnel through the ground and cover up their tracks. It seems disgusting when you first read it, but it comes in handy later in the book and in the series.
The fairy technology is one of my favorite parts of the book. Such intricate ideas and designs–truly ingenious. There are too many to list them all, but probably the most dangerous is the Bio-Bomb, or “blue rinse.” It destroys all life in its proximity, yet leaves all other structures intact. This is one of dozens of inventions Colfer’s devious mind has created.
The writing was excellent, and although it was cheesy at some points, there are some witty elements that are going to make you laugh.
A great book all in all. I would call it “required reading!”

We bought this a few years ago after having the clunky Forerunner 100 for a couple of years. We now have 3 Garmins we can use for running and other sports. The original Forerunner 100, this model the 305 with HRM (pd $299 at the time- much cheaper now) and the new 310 xt so I’ll share my recommendations between the 3 (although they’ve made some really nice upgrades to the 100 since we bought the first model, so that comparison may no longer be accurate). As some background my husband and I are both avid runners having gone from basic running for exercise 4 years ago to multiple marathons and ultras now. So here goes. Each time we upgraded was due to a need for new functionality. The basic model is good for a basic runner, we upgraded to get better satellite reception when trail running or in cities with tall buildings and we weren’t disappointed. When we upgraded to the 305 it turns out we never really used the software and training programs. But we did like the better satellite reception, fancier screens, recharging station (no more batteries – yeah!), history, multi-sport and map features. There’s been more than once we’ve use the map to find a quicker way home when out on a long run in a new area. The interval training was used quite a bit during marathon training, but have to say the menu to set the values can use some help. The buttons take some strength and you have to used the up and down arrows in a cumbersome way, but once you get the hang of it you live with it. The two year history has been nice to note the long term progress. I had trouble with getting the heart rate monitor to register but that may have been a bad battery. We can now use the HR strap with both the 305 and 310XT after putting in a new battery. My husband did have one instance with the 305 having trouble not registering the HR. I’m not sure if it’s the strap or the ability of the 305 to read the signal. I suspect the technology of the 305 for the HR is not as robust as the

This unit is used by my 12-year old daughter, who loves it. She uses it mostly for programs, not music. Go figure.
Biggest downsides:
1. Large for a music player, but then again, it’s not really for music, now is it?
2. Needs iTunes (although there are alternatives out there). iTunes is absolutely frustrating and works in a non-intuitive way for people who can think (i.e., Windows users). Even my daughter, who doesn’t have pre-conceived notions about Mac vs. Windows doesn’t understand how iTunes is set up.

The omron pedometer is the best I have used. It is accurate and does not count every jiggle. This is the second one I have bought. The first one lasted for several years.

This Hoover is a replacement for a larger Hoover vacuum that met it’s demise after 10 years. I love this one. It’s so light and easy to use. I’ve read complaints about the cord not being long enough. I don’t agree with that claim. The cord length is ample for the area I have. If you don’t have this model, BE AWARE,”if you don’t hold onto it as you turn it on, it will take off by itself, then vacuum your whole living room without you.” (Just kidding). It’s great, light, and easy to use. Oh yeah, and you can’t beat the price.

Play Loud Ukulele no mad
I recently was fortunate to see Jake play live for the first time (I also met him and he is a super nice and humble guy).
I became a fan after I started playing ‘Ukulele and got this DVD despite the reviews that the video quality is junky and the teaching is for advanced players only but actually found this to be misleading.
One thing I need to be clear on is that this video is about one hour of concert footage and short interviews in Japan from his Crosscurrent tour, 2002 I think and the video quality of the concert footage is good, the audio is very good so well worth it. DVD DOES Jake justice. The reason I brought up seeing him play LIVE recently for the first time is because his albums while great (and I have them all) do not do him justice, you have to see him live to really see him shine and here is your chance even if it is older footage.
There are also 3 or 4 music videos that I enjoyed as well.
The teaching part is fun, helpful and quite short but packed full of Jake style playing that is useful for a player of ANY level who is willing to take the time to go through it step by step and not rush it. He teaches several of his strumming techniques that are pretty unique to his play but really simple when slowed down, with little exception.
He then teaches you how to play “Yesterday” the Beatles classic in his interpretation and while I would rather learn this on paper with the music and tableture even I at my advanced-beginner level could learn to play this proficiently if I wanted to devote the time…everyone has different learning styles but you might find it easy to pick up watching him.
IN ANY CASE, if you play or not if you are a fan GET THIS DVD for the Live Footage and Videos. The Audio is great and I didn’t really see any video problems and I am a Professional still photographer but in any case if the video quality is not hi-def it is more than tolerable, CHECK IT OUT!
