Network programming can be very difficult, given such issues as latency and different hardware/operating systems on your net. At the very least, the latter can have different byte orderings an datatype sizes, if you write in C or C++. Now in C, by the late 1980s, such headaches caused several unix vendors (mainly Sun) to converge on supporting a key utility, rpcgen (and affiliated routines). This let you write common C code for client/server applications, and compile these on various platforms. Lo, things usually worked! But as software projects grew in complexity, writing in procedural language like C became harder. Hence the rise of C++. Well, wouldn’t it be nice to reimplement and extend rpcgen? (It had numerous limitations.) The idea was to finesse/bury OS specific details at a lower level of the code, where you could often ignore it. You can imagine ACE as filling this need. I’m not saying that this is how or why ACE was developed. But I am trying to argue from YOUR background, which I assume is C++ and C. The book describes significantly more functionality in ACE than merely an extension of rpcgen. Even if you don’t have a C++ networking application, but are writing a standalone application, ACE may be useful. It increases your chances of writing portable code. For one thing, it heavily downplays the use of OS-supplied compiler macros. In both C++ and C code that will be maintained on several platforms, this is a notorious source of bugs. Very brittle. Just having ACE subsume these issues should give a maintenance productivity gain. You won’t see this immediately when coding the first version of your application. But experienced developers should see the payoff. Plus, ACE also offers higher level design patterns. Here, I don’t know how applicable they might be to your specific problems. But just having the patterns increases your coding arsenal.

I purchased this as a gift for friends and while their baby girl is still a little young to enjoy it, it will be a wonderful addition to her development “toolbox.” This particular baby gym is bright and colorful, has plenty of toys and bobbles and is inexpensive. Whilst the gym arrived in a box that was far too big for it, shipping was extremely fast. I’m very happy with this purchase, thanks!

Had a hard time getting the Wii Fit balance board I wanted for Wii Fit excersice program. Finally got one!! Enjoy the programs and am on the “weigh down” with my weight. Very enjoyable using all the programs that I am able to do now, looking forward to adding more exercise forms for advanced as I progress. Been using it almost every day.

I can not imagine my item is shipped via US postal service to be delivered in two days. Tracking site keeps telling me that the item is out for delivery for the last 4 days and who knows if it will ever arrive.

I will never buy these small gadgets or attachments from Amazon ever again.

This is my second purchase from Amazon and so far 50% good and and 50 % bad!

I bought a camera, camera bag and memory flash drive. All three were shipped separately with different methods. That is stupid and in efficient and more expensive.

I received the camera bag. I paid $15 but I do not like it. Now they want me pay additional $6.00 to return. Instead I trashed it. Why would I want to waste more time and what guarantees next purchase will even be better.

If I order three items at the same time I want them come:
- At the same time
- I want one delivery
- You pay one shipment
- I do not want to keep waiting
- Deliver when you say you will deliver
- put a customer service telephone# on your site that I can call and complain or find out what you will do to make sure I receive my package if I do not get it on time.

Now, I have to go to Best buy and a get another flash drive and spend another $20-30 box as I needed this camera on Monday at a trade show I am going.

Now, Mr.Jeff Besos, you tell me, do you think I saved anything by coming and buying from you?

When I looked at the other sites, difference was minimal but I bought from you because of reliability of delivery. Now that goes down the hole. No more I will believe what I read at your site also.

For those who want a touch of pink on their watch, this is the way to go. This was a gift for my wife and she really likes it. The slim profile is very nice and much less bulky than the traditional G-Shock. Otherwise, it’s a G-Shock, so naturally, it is a solid piece. Highly recommend.

I bought this book because I had heard it was a classic, and my children were required to read it in high school.

This is a well-written book about a self-centered boy who considered most other people (especially adults) to be idiots. His sister was the only person he respected. He was a loser, having been ejected from several private schools. It could be assumed that he represented the disenchanted generation of the sixties and seventies, but I did not find them this negative. Perhaps authors are required to exaggerate in order to make their points.

If you have a PS3 and a plasma over 32″ and appreciate HD you will be sickened by the Wii. The graphics are tragically horrid. The lack of response in the controllers compared to other gaming system is also not an appreciated attribute. That said, if you are considering this for your 5 year old or you really like to be active this is the system for you! The games that involve activity just don’t exist outside the Wii in the same manner so for that fact alone it’s worth the purchase if you want to move around. If you seek aesthetics and rapid response stick with XBox 360 or Playstation 3.
