This was a really good, enjoyable, authentic, endearing book. Thoroughly enjoyable read. One of a kind, leaves you wanting more of the circus on the rails of the depression era. I also love first-person novels that stay on plot and Gruen doesn’t disappoint there.

I TOTALLY disagree with another reviewer who said Gruen over-anthropomophized and over-romanticized the animals in the story! Hardly. If anything, if Jacob is a vet, we read very little of him doing his job in context of the story. And anyone who’s around animals or has worked with animals can hardly fail to form emotional attachments to them.

When I finished WATER FOR ELEPHANTS, I like I felt when I finished reading FRIED GREEN TOMATOES AT THE WHISTLE STOP CAFE and SEABISCUIT.

I purchased this scale (as well as a food scale from EatSmart) because of the positive reviews, and I have to say I am very impressed. Both scales weigh incredibly accurately. The bathroom scale is my third scale. Both previous bathroom scales I had purchased from other manufacturers had very erratic performance. I could get on them ten times in the course of one minute and get ten different readings. The EatSmart scale, on the other hand, is accurate every time. I got on and off the scale multiple times, moved it from place to place, weighed other items besides myself in-between readings, and every single time I get the same exact weight reading. It really is the perfect scale. I would definitely recommend this company for their high quality products. I haven’t had to deal with their customer support, but everything I’ve read also states that they have beyond excellent customer service. This type of company with these types of quality products is an unbeatable and rare combination these days. I am very glad I found them.

So far so good! I’ve had my pedometer for a month now and it works like a charm. I heard some criticism about the clips breaking, but I use mine all the time and have never had a problem. It comes with a clip on the pedometer and one on the cord so you can use either or both.

Water for Elephants is a quick read that carries you through many experiences and emotions. I enjoyed most of the characters (human and animal). It was thrilling, sad, sexy and hearbreaking at times, but in the end you won’t regret reading it! You’ll get the added bonus of reading historical fiction too. Very good read, highly recommended.

This is a great pocket pedometer. It’s lightweight, easy to use and sturdy. I sometimes leave it in my messenger bag and it still records my steps, kcals, and distance. Most of the time it’s in my front pocket. Thanks to previous reviews expressing concerns about the small clip (not the big holster one but the one that attaches to the wrist strap) I pay more attention to how I string it around my belt loop!

The memory function is useful for those times when I forget to log my info. But I’m still trying to figure out how to reset the pedometer for specific walking exercises. It will measure info from the time you clip it on to the next day.

Still, I’d recommend this item for fitness walkers, or even those simply curious about their daily walking habits. It’s amazing how much a person walks in one day!
